Q. Could you briefly introduce your site?

"Hello, I am Park Gyu-young, the Site Manager for the Incheon Hyoseong District Residential 4BL project. We began in September 2024 and are now entering the final stages of construction.
When I took over this site in 2024, my biggest challenge was finding a smart way to monitor a complex project at a glance. After hearing about the success of using Meissa at our Cheonan site, I worked with our R&D institute to implement it here.
We started using the platform during the initial excavation phase. It was incredibly useful for pinpointing earth retention and earth anchor locations by interacting with the 3D models. Experiencing that practical value early on is why we still rely heavily on Meissa today for site monitoring and subcontractor coordination as we wrap up construction."
Q. It is impressive that the entire site team, not just a few managers, uses Meissa. How did that start?

To be honest, I had some reservations at first. While the technology is great, I worried that exposing every corner of the site might feel like micromanagement or put pressure on the staff.
However, we pushed forward because I knew the benefits of having clear records would far outweigh those concerns. When issues like cost settlements arise with subcontractors, our team can confidently and smoothly handle the process backed by objective data.
Initially, I had to encourage its use, but now the team takes the initiative. When I log into the platform, I see they are actively applying Meissa to various tasks completely on their own.

I believe the Site Manager strongly recommended platforms like Meissa because it ultimately saves working hours for the field staff. We can intuitively and quickly estimate quantities and distances directly on the screen, bypassing tedious drawing work.
Its use isn't limited to the construction team. As a safety manager, I’ve used Meissa during morning briefings to pinpoint locations for high-risk workers. Our MEP (Mechanical) and administrative teams are using it as well. Familiarizing everyone with this tool opens up endless possibilities to improve the overall construction process.

Every employee on our site knows how to use Meissa. We typically update the site data every two weeks. It truly serves as a unified communication hub where everyone can easily check how the site is progressing.
Resolving Current Workflows, Shaping the Future
Q. How are you using Meissa for workflow coordination and task delegation on such a complex, multi-level site?

Because our site has significant elevation differences, work sequences can easily get tangled. It used to be a struggle to explain this verbally, but now we pull up Meissa on a tablet during subcontractor meetings.
We coordinate intuitively by looking at the screen: 'This is the pump car area, and that’s the crane radius, so let’s split the work into AM and PM to avoid clashes,' or 'Waterproofing starts here, so please clear the materials.' We even measure pouring distances directly on the platform to check equipment reach before finalizing our plans.

Similarly, I use it for task delegation. I can't memorize every location for safety fences or zoning nets, so I quickly check Meissa from the office.
For example, if a safety fence needs to be dismantled to move materials, I just take a screenshot from Meissa and point out the exact section. I could walk out to the site and take a photo myself, but this method drastically cuts down on physical travel time and ensures immediate understanding.
Q. It seems you have overlaid various drawings on Meissa. How exactly were these blueprints utilized in practice?

The design overlay feature is exceptionally useful. We relied on it heavily to verify the positioning of temporary structures, underground facilities, precast concrete (PC), and basement columns.
It was particularly valuable during PHC piling work, as it displays exact pile locations. If we notice any deviation on the screen, we can immediately call the subcontractor to address the issue. Doing this manually on-site is incredibly labor-intensive, but being able to check it instantly from the office has been a massive help for construction management.

To add to the Site Manager's point, when we overlaid the pile blueprints onto the drone maps, any misplaced piles stood out immediately. When we went out to verify with our surveying equipment, they were indeed off-limits, allowing us to make urgent corrections right away.

For my role, rather than just viewing the drawings, I used them as a reference to measure the lengths of drainage pumps and temporary piping that extended beyond the site boundary.
Design drawings only cover the interior of the construction site. Pipes or pumps that need to route outside the boundary aren't detailed, making it hard to estimate their lengths. By overlaying the stormwater drainage layout onto the orthomosaic photos, I could map out the actual pipeline path on screen before ordering materials. This allowed me to estimate the required lengths beforehand and ensure we had enough supply for installation.
Q. It is interesting that you upload not only the current site status but also a 3D mock-up of the completed complex. What is the reason behind this?

Physical mock-ups are usually bulky and take up too much space in a temporary site office. However, digitizing the mock-up into a 3D model and uploading it to the platform has made our weekly meetings incredibly convenient.
We use Meissa's site mapping to track the 'present' progress, while referencing the 3D model to visualize the 'future' outcome. It allows us to hold proactive planning meetings by rotating the complex in real-time to answer questions like, 'How is the layout of this road designed?' or 'What is the planned elevation for the landscaping stones and internal site differences?'—details that are often hard to grasp from 2D flat drawings alone.
Initially, we uploaded it to keep a solid record in case of future civil complaints regarding discrepancies from the model house post-completion. But in practice, the greatest advantage is being able to see both the beginning and the end of the project within a single platform. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be this versatile when we first started, but it has proven to be exceptionally useful.

Proving Site Data with Numbers: Beyond the Blueprints
Q. Did you also use Meissa to calculate material quantities during earthworks or structural framework construction?

Yes, we utilized it for interim cost settlements with our subcontractors. Knowing the total volume isn't enough; we need to analyze the data by specific soil properties.
By capturing drone data every time the soil strata changed, we obtained highly accurate values and finalized our settlements based on those figures. Having this clear, objective evidence pleased the headquarters team as well. It made me realize that this platform could significantly reduce chronic settlement disputes.

Its usability goes beyond earthworks; it’s highly effective for foundation concrete pouring as well. Excavations never turn out as perfectly as the drawings suggest; over-excavation is inevitable. In the past, we had to either redraw the plans to account for this or add a premium to calculate the correct quantities.
With Meissa, even for irregular surface areas like leveling concrete or weight concrete, we can simply use the area measurement tool to get an immediate estimate when we are in a rush. It is a massive help for grasping the actual required materials. When we later compared our estimates to the actual poured volume, the calculated margin of error was remarkably precise.

To add to the concrete pouring scenario, things can move incredibly fast on site. When the final deadline for ready-mix concrete approaches, there is no time to run back to the office to check drawings. Dispatch usually ends at 5 PM. I vividly remember using Meissa right in the field with time running out—checking required volumes by section in real-time to quickly determine the exact order quantity.
Lotte E&C and Meissa: Shaping the Future of Smart Construction
Q. Do you plan to continue using Meissa on future projects?

Whenever external inspectors or VIPs visit, I always bring up the Meissa platform to guide the discussion. We use it extensively in meetings to overlay drawings or proactively review 3D models for site elevations, roads, and landscaping that are hard to grasp in 2D. It has also been a massive help in reducing settlement disputes.
Honestly, I didn’t expect a single platform to cover this much ground. I am very grateful for how it enables transparent site management. I heard the 3D viewer is getting an update soon, and I look forward to utilizing it even more effectively on our next project.

From a safety manager’s perspective, one of Meissa’s biggest advantages is the ability to overlay blueprints directly onto panoramic site photos. It allows us to verify if actual construction matches the drawings on a single screen. In the past, we had to roughly estimate working radiuses on outdated drone photos for our reports, which compromised reliability. But Meissa’s distance values are based on actual measurements, meaning we can accurately mark working radiuses and directly embed them into our safety plans.
There are still some hurdles to fully integrating tech-based safety on site. With a daily workforce of 500, securing GPS consent and training each worker in their 40s and 50s isn't easy, and we must also consider the costs associated with such a large workforce. However, I know Meissa is continuously updating its features. Once functions like location-based hazard alerts are fully adopted, I expect it will deliver substantial value for worker safety management
